Create app screenshots that improve conversion
Build a screenshot sequence that explains value quickly, stays faithful to the product and gives you a testable hypothesis instead of decorative guesswork.

Lead with the clearest reason to install
The first screenshot should communicate the app category and primary outcome at a glance. Use a short benefit-led headline, one recognizable product moment and enough contrast to survive the small store-card view.
Google explicitly recommends prioritizing app UI in the first three screenshots. Apple likewise asks marketing assets to represent the real app experience. Keep the promise specific and verifiable.
- One message per frame
- Short copy with a strong visual hierarchy
- Real UI at a readable scale
- Consistent sequence across the first three images
Turn features into outcomes
A feature such as smart reminders becomes more persuasive when framed as the user outcome: Never miss the moment that matters. Pair the claim with the exact screen that proves it.
Avoid unsupported superlatives, testimonials, ranking badges and temporary price claims. Google Play calls out several of these patterns in its preview-asset guidance.
Measure instead of guessing
Create a baseline, state a hypothesis and test one meaningful change such as the first-frame message, screenshot order or visual treatment. Apple Product Page Optimization and Google Play Store Listing Experiments are the official testing mechanisms for their respective stores.
Judge the result using the store's own experiment data and allow enough traffic for a useful comparison. A new visual that looks better to the team is not automatically a conversion winner.
